Today would have been Raymond Carver’s 74th birthday and how I would have loved another set of short stories that without reaching for overly descriptive words, perfectly described the desperation of the American state.
“It ought to make us feel ashamed when we talk like we know what we’re talking about when we talk about love.”
In honor of his birthday, pick up a copy of “Cathedral”, or “Shortcuts”, or “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love”. Or if you are illiterate, watch Will Ferrell’s “Everything Must Go” or the film “Shortcuts”.
